What are social media influencers?
The better question is WHO are social media influencers? Social Media Influencers are people, typically celebrities, with massive followings on the major social media platforms Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. They've grown their following by being consistently active on their platforms and producing content tailored to their key demographics.
How can they help you?
A celebrity can work with you to promote your brand to their followers, thus exposing your product or brand to thousands or millions of people who may not have known about it previously. If a celebrity is a fan of a certain product and gives it positive promotion, their fans are more likely to check it out. Plus, on social media platforms, a direct link can be provided, thus making it that much easier to direct traffic to your site.
What is a brand deal?
A brand deal is a contract with an influencer where you pay them to endorse your product on their platforms, whether it is Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and/or YouTube. Similar to a commercial advertising campaign, you are using a celebrity to advertise your product. However, a brand deal is a more intimate and personal promotion of the product because influencers are focusing on a smaller group of people and their promotion is more direct. Additionally, it is typical to offer a slight discount for your product or services for first time customers directed by your influencer. This, in turn, gives the influencer higher incentive to promote your brand.
Why is choosing the right influencer important?
There are a lot of celebrities out there who have fostered strong connections with their fans via social media, but not every influencer is right for you. You need an influencer whose demographic matches yours and who fits the lifestyle of your brand. You want the connection to be natural so their followers don't disregard your brand and the celebrity for an unauthentic promotion. Social media followers don't want to be shown products that an influencer doesn't stand behind, and most influencers are equally picky about their brand deals so as not to turn off their fans.
