Bobby Lee is an American comedian most known for being the first Asian cast member of the live comedy series MADtv. He portrays most of the Asian characters on the show, both male and female, including Kim Jong-il and Connie Chung, and is the subject of many "Asian Powers" sketches. Lee was born to South Korean immigrants in San Diego, California. He was expected as a young man to manage the clothes business owned by his family. He was discovered by Frank Burns, the illustrious owner of La Jolla's Comedy Store, at the neighborhood community college. He enjoys playing golf and spending time with his MADtv coworkers. In 2001, Lee was hired as a featured performer for the seventh season of MADtv. The next season, he was elevated to a repertory performer rank and has been there ever since. Hideki the Average Asian, an Asian American who is constantly harassed by people who stereotype him based on his ethnicity, Tank, an ambitious import tuner street racer who uses his ricer Daewoo to pick up girls, and the Blind Kung-Fu Master are just a few of the memorable characters Lee created for the show (a blind martial arts master who usually screws up on his missions due to his blindness, and brings aboard what he thinks is a weapon, but what it is actually a Swiffer duster, flashlight, etc.) The fact that Lee is routinely asked to play female roles is a major running joke on the program. One of Lee's most popular sketches in recent seasons is one that is based on the television show 24, in which he describes his day, usually beginning with two or three hours of sleep and continuing at home with some strange activity or doing nothing at all for hours.
