After dedicating himself to stand-up comedy in the Denver and Seattle areas in 1991, Diaz moved to Los Angeles in 1995 and started acting. He landed parts in My Name Is Earl, The Longest Yard, Spider-Man 2, Grudge Match, and The Many Saints of Newark among other movies and television shows. Diaz began to become well-known in 2010 as a result of his podcast appearances on The Joe Rogan Experience. He hosted The Church of What's Happening Now with Lee Syatt from 2012 to 2020. Since then, he has hosted Uncle Joey's Joint. Diaz created a blue comedy act after watching the 1988 movie Punchline in response to an advertisement for a $37 stand-up comedy course in a Denver newspaper. He worked as a doorman at Wit's End prior to doing his debut stand-up routine. Together with producer and sidekick Lee Syatt, Diaz debuted his own podcast, The Church of What's Happening Now, on September 2, 2012. Diaz gave it the name of a remark made to him by his previous manager while he was selling vehicles in Boulder.
