After attended Foothill, Gilbert transferred to Pepperdine University and while there became an All-American and was a finalist in the NCAA Championship. Gilbert is a member of many Halls of Fame including being apart of the USTA Northern California Hall of Fame, the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, Pepperdine Athletics Hall of Fame, ITA Intercollegiate Tennis Hall of Fame, and more.
