Jeff Agoos is a retired Swiss-born American soccer defender who played for various teams as well as for the United States national team which he was an all-time appearance leader for. Agoos has gone on to be the Sporting Director for the New York Red Bulls and has also been Vice President of Competitions for the MLS. Agoos began playing soccer in high school where he was named Dallas All-Sports Athlete-of-the-Year and was a two-time Parade Magazine High School All-American. From there, Agoos went on to play college soccer at the University of Virginia. While playing college soccer, Agoos earned First-Team All-American honors twice. After graduating, Agoos went on to play for the Maryland Bays of the A-League and went on to play with teams such as Dallas Sidekicks, Los Angeles Salsa, SV Wehen, D.C. United, West Bromwich Albion on loan, San Jose Earthquakes, and MetroStars. With D.C. United, Agoos helped them to win an MLS Cup three times, an MLS Supporters’ Shield twice, a U.S. Open Cup, a CONCACAF Champions’ Cup, and an InterAmerican Cup.
