Bill Frist is an American physician, businessman, and politician who has previously served as United States Senator from Tennessee, Leader of the Senate Republican Conference, and Senate Majority Leader. Frist was born in Nashville, Tennessee and his father was a founder and doctor of Hospital Corporation of America. Frist earned his B.S. from Princeton University and went on to earn his M.D. from Harvard University. During his medical career, Frist trained in cardiovascular physiology at Massachusetts General Hospital and he then went on to be a resident in surgery there. Frist also worked at Southampton General Hospital and was a senior fellow and chief resident in cardiac transplant service and cardiothoracic surgery at Stanford University. After he completed his fellowship, Frist became a faculty member at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and he went on to be founder of the Vanderbilt Transplant Center. As a senator, Frist was advised by Howard Baker to pursue the Senate and he went on to serve two terms. During his time on the senate, Frist helped push the Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act and PEPFar.
