David Ikard is a diversity speaker, author, and Professor of African American and Diaspora Studies at Vanderbilt University. Ikard’s research and teaching includes African American Literature, hip-hop culture, black feminist criticism, black masculinity and whiteness studies. Ikard has earned his B.A. from North Carolina State University, has earned his M.A. from North Carolina State University, and has earned his Ph.D. from University of Wisconsin-Madison. Ikard has served as chair of Africana Studies at the University of Miami and has also served as chair of African American and Diaspora Studies at Vanderbilt. He has previously earned the William R. Jones Outstanding Mentor Award from the Florida Education Fund and the McKnight Fellows for his work at mentoring graduate students.
