Stephen Chbosky is an American novelist, screenwriter, and film director who is best known for writing the New York Times best-selling novel “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” as well as writing and directing the film version of the same name. Chbosky was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and while growing up, he was influenced by the writings of F. Scott Fitzgerald, Tennessee Williams, and the novel “Catcher in the Rye.” While studying in high school, Chbosky met Stewart Stern whom became his friend and mentor and made an influence on Chbosky’s carer. After high school, Chbosky went on to graduate from the University of Southern California’s screenwriting program. After, he went on to write, direct and act as Finneas in his debut film “The Four Corners of Nowhere.” His debut film was accepted by the Sundance Film Festival and was one of the first films ever shown on the Sundance Channel. After a few years, Chbosky published The Perks of Being a Wallflower which has won the American Library Association Best Book for Young Adults and the American Library Association Best Book for Reluctant Readers. In film, Chbosky’s other credits include writing “Rent,” producing “The Poughkeepsie Tapes,” writing “Beauty and the Beast,” and directing and writing “Wonder.” He has also written for the series “Brutally Normal” and has written, produced, and been co-creator for “Jericho.” Most recently, Chbosky has published his second novel, “Imaginary Friend” which was an instant New York Times best-seller..
