After resigning from his position, Emanuel worked in finance for a short time before pursuing the U.S. House seat in the 5th district of Illinois. From there, he became Chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Chair of the House Democratic Caucus, and was the 23rd White House Chief of Staff under President Obama before becoming Mayor..
