Eric Whitacre is an American composer, conductor, and speaker, from Reno, Nevada. Whitacre is best known for his choral, orchestral, and wind ensemble music and he has previously been appointed as Los Angeles Master Chorale’s first artist-in-residence at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. While growing up, Whitacre studied piano and joined a marching band in middle school. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Music Composition from University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and went on to earn his master’s degree in Composition from Juilliard School where he studied with David Diamond and John Corigliano. Shortly after, Whitacre completed his first piece for Wind Orchestra entitled, “Ghost Train.” After graduating and following the success of Ghost Train, Whitacre moved to Los Angeles and pursued composing full-time. Over the years, Whitacre has written for the London Symphony Orchestra, Julian Lloyd Webber, the Philharmonia Orchestra, Dallas Winds, and many more. He has released the musical Paradise Lost: Shadows and Wings, which won and was nominated for numerous awards.
