Keith Boykin is an American author, television personality, journalist, and political commentator. Boykin is from St. Louis, Missouri, and he has earned his B.A. from Dartmouth College and has earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School. While studying at Harvard, Boykin became editor of the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review and was also leader of the campus diversity movement. After earning his law degree, Boykin joined the presidential campaign for Bill Clinton and after Clinton became President, Boykin became the Special Assistant to the President and Director of Specialty Media. At the time of his service, Boykin was the highest-ranking openly gay person in the White House and he helped organize meetings between gay and lesbian leaders and the President. Shortly after leaving the White House, Boykin published his first book, “One More River to Cross: Black & Gay in America,” which was followed by his second book, “Respecting the Soul: Daily Reflections for Black Lesbians and Gays.” He has since published two more books, “Beyond the Down Low” and “For Colored Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Still Not Enough.” As a television personality, Boykin has been the co-host of “My Two Cents” on the BET J channel, and has been a CNN political commentator. As a journalist, he has contributed articles for outlets such as the San Francisco Chronicle, The Advocate, and more.
