Otis Moss III is best known for being the pastor for Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ where he speaks on reaching inner-city black youth and talks on black theology. Moss is the son of Otis Moss Jr. who was an affiliate of Martin Luther King, Jr. where they worked together. Moss was raised in Shaker Heights, Ohio, and originally wanted to be a filmmaker before going on to earn his B.A. in religion and philosophy from Morehouse College and then his Master of Divinity from Yale University before going on to earn his Doctor of Ministry from Chicago Theological Seminary. While studying at Yale, Moss became interested in black theology and also became an ordained Baptist minister. While studying for his Ph.D., Moss ended up entering into working as a minister full-time and while in Denver, he was the minister of youth programs at New Hope Baptist Church before moving to Augusta, Georgia to be a pastor at Tabernacle Baptist Church. While at Tabernacle, Moss took the church from only 125 members to over 2,000. Since then, he began working with Trinity United Church of Christ. Moss has published a sermon collection and has been a member of the Progressive National Baptist Convention, the NAACp, and the Rainbow/Push Coalition. He has also been a board member of the United Way chapter and The Christian Century..
