Kimberle Williams Crenshaw is an American lawyer, civil rights advocate, philosopher, and scholar who developed the theory of intersectionality. Crenshaw was born in Canton, Ohio, and she has earned her B.A. from Cornell University, her J.D. from Harvard Law School and her LL.M. from the University of Wisconsin Law School where she was a William H. Hastie Fellow as well as a law clerk to Wisconsin Supreme Court Judge Shirley Abrahamson.
