Kevin Olusola is a Nigerian-American beatboxer, multi-instrumentalist, and singer who is best known for being the beatboxer of the band Pentatonix. Olusola was born in Owensboro, Kentucky, and he has earned his degree from Yale. While studying at Yale, Olusola took a Chinese government sponsored trip and he then lived in Beijing for 6 months through a program through Yale. He then studied Chinese at the Inter-University Program for Chinese Language Study in Beijing. While at Yale he was also Director of Communications for the non-profit, College Outreach, and he also worked at the Yale Law School library and the Yale School of Music. Olusola always had a passion for music and he studied the piano at 4 years old, the cello at 6 years old, and the alto saxophone at 10 years old. While in school he participated in jazz band, marching band, concert band, and orchestra. When he was only 12 years old he became the principal saxophonist of the U.S. Collegiate Wind Band and toured all over Europe for three weeks performing. He even had a solo performance at Carnegie Hall for winning the American Fine Arts Festival. When studying at Yale, Olusola began doing what is known as “celloboxing,” which led to him being featured in outlets such as CBS, Huffington Post, Washington Post, and more. This also led to him being chosen by Quincy Jones to represent him at the Montreux Jazz Festival.
