Jocko Willink is an American retired officer of the United States Navy who served in the Navy SEAL teams and is now a podcaster and author. Willink was born in Torrington, Connecticut, and he began his career in Navy recruit training and Radioman “A” School training at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado. He went on to graduate BUD/S class 177 and earned the NEC 5326 as a Combatant Swimmer. Willink served eight years as an enlisted Navy SEAL with SEAL Team ONE as well as SEAL Team TWO. Willink worked his way through the ranks to become a SEAL officer and as a commander of SEAL Team Three’s Taks Unit Bruiser he helped the “Ready First” Brigade of the U.S. Army’s First Armored Division to bring stability to the city during the battle of Ramadi in the Operation Iraqi Freedom. During his service, Willink was awarded with a Silver Star Medal, and a Bronze Star Medal. Willink went on to retire after 20 years of service and since then, has gone on to co-found a leadership consulting firm, Echelon Front, LLC. He has also been author and or co-author of several books including the New York Times bestseller, “Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win.” Some of his other books include “Discipline Equals Freedom,” “The Dichotomy of Leadership,” and he has also written children’s books.
