Bishop was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, and he began his career playing football at his high school before going on to play college football at Ball State University where he earned All-Mid-American Conference second-team choice and was also later named team captain. Bishop went on to be drafted in the eighth round of the NFL draft by the Houston Oilers, now known as the Tennessee Titans. He spent a majority of his professional NFL career with the Oilers and also spent a year with the Philadelphia Eagles. Over the course of his professional career, Bishop was a four-time Pro Bowl selection, was a first team All-Conference – UPI, a second team All-Conference – UPI and a second team All-Pro. He finished his career with 728 total tackles, 15.5 sacks, 13 forced fumbles, 11 fumble recoveries, 5 interceptions and 1 defensive touchdown. Since retiring from playing, Bishop has worked as a sports commentator for WTVF and has co-hosted a radio show in Nashville.
