Leber was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and he began his career playing high school football where he was named to several All-America teams. After graduating, Leber went on to play college football at Kansas State where he was a two-time All-Big 12 selection, earned second team all-conference honors, was an All-American third-team selection by the Associated Press and a consensus All-Big 12 Conference first-team choice. After graduating, Leber went on to be drafted in the third round of the NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers. Leber played for the Chargers for three years before going on to play for the Minnesota Vikings. He also was signed to the St. Louis Rams but was waived shortly after. After retiring from football, Leber has been in a partnership with Bell Bank to do charity work. He has also been a college football broadcaster for Fox Sports and has been a sideline analyst for KFAN radio..
