Dennis Franchione, also known as Coach Fran, is a retired American professional football coach who coached football for over 40 years. Franchione was born in Girard, Kansas, and he previously earned his B.A. from Pittsburgh State University before going on to begin his coaching career working as a head football coach at Miller High School. After a year there, Franchione went on to work as the assistant coach at Mulvane High School and was then the head coach at Peabody-Burns High School. Moving from coaching high school to college, Franchione began working as an assistant coach at Kansas State. After working as an assistant coach for two years, Franchione then became a head coach at Southwestern. He has since gone on to be head coach for universities which include Tennessee Tech, Pittsburg State, Southwest Texas State, New Mexico, TCU, Alabama, Texas A&M and Texas State. Over the course of his career Franchione won 1 KCAC, 4 CIAC, 1 MIAA, 2 WAC, and 1 WAC Mountain Division championships. He was also awarded with two NAIA Division I Coach of the Year awards and two AFCA Regional Coach of the Year awards. He has since been inducted into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame..
