Chris Long is a former American professional football defensive end who played in the NFL for several years and is the son of Howie Long, and brother of Kyle Long. Long was born in Santa Monica, California, and he began his career playing high school football where he helped his school go undefeated and win the state UIL school championship. He was then given a four-star ranking by Rivals and also played in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Long went on to play college football at the University of Virginia where he earned second-team All-ACC honors, first-team All-ACC, unanimous All-American, ACC Defensive Player of the Year, the Dudley Award, and the Ted Hendricks Award. He has since had his jersey number 91 retired from the university, making him the first player to have his jersey retired while still an active player. Long went on to be selected in the first round, second overall pick in the NFL draft by the St. Louis Rams. Long spent most of his NFL career playing for the Rams but also played for the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles. During his time with the Patriots and the Eagles, Long helped them both to win a Super Bowl championship. He has previously been named Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year, NFL Alumni Lineman of the Year, and has been a PFWA All-Rookie Team.
