Sullivan was born in Marshfield, Massachusetts, and he began his career playing hockey in high school before going on to play college hockey at Boston University where he helped his university with the Beanpot Tournament. From there, Sullivan went on to be drafted by the New York Rangers in the NHL Entry Draft but didn’t take it as he wanted to finish school.
