Bruce Hurst is a former MLB professional pitcher. Hurst was born in St. George, Utah, and he began his career playing basketball in high school before moving to baseball. He ended up catching the attention of MLB scouts during an American Legion state tournament and went on to be selected by the Red Sox as the 22nd overall pick in the MLB draft by the Boston Red Sox. Hurst spent a majority of his MLB professional career with the Red Sox. During his time with the Red Sox he became known for his performance with them in the postseason and was named the World Series MVP at one point and was also named an All-Star. Hurst has since gone on to be inducted into the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame. Hurst went on to play for teams such as San Diego Padres, Colorado Rockies and Texas Rangers. After retiring from the MLB, he finished his career with a 145-113 win-loss record, a 3.92 earned run average, and 1,689 strikeouts.
