Rich Gedman is an American professional baseball coach and former professional baseball catcher who played in the MLB. Gedman was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, and he began his career playing baseball in high school as well as for the Grafton Hill American Legion Baseball program. He went on to later sign as a free agent for the Boston Red Sox in the MLB but first began playing in the Red Sox minor leagues system where he caught the first nine innings of the longest game in the history of professional baseball between Pawtucket Red Sox and the Rochester Red Wings. Gedman went on to make his professional debut with the Boston Red Sox and during his time there, he was a two-time All-Star, he hit a career high 24 home runs and also hit career highs in batting average and RBI. After playing with the Red Sox for 10 years, Gedman went on to play for the Houston Astros for a year before going on to play for the St. Louis Cardinals for a year. From there, Gedman retired from the MLB and finished his career with a .252 batting average, 88 home runs, and 382 runs batted in. He has gone on to also be inducted into the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame. Gedman has since began coaching baseball and has coached the North Shore Spirit, managed the Worcester Tornadoes, was a hitting coach for the Lowell Spinners, and was hitting coach of the AAA Pawtucket Red Sox..
