Frank Beamer is a retired American football coach and former football cornerback. Beamer was born in Mount Airy, North Carolina, and he began his career playing football in high school where he earned 11 varsity letters in three different sports before going on to play college football at Virginia Tech where he played in two Liberty Bowls and was a starting cornerback for three years. Beamer went on to begin his career as a coach first working as a graduate assistant at University of Maryland. From there, he began working as a defensive line coach and defensive coordinator coach for The Citadel. He then went on to work as a defensive coordinator and then head coach at Murray State where he helped them to win one OVC championship. After leaving Murray State, Beamer went on to begin his long career as the head coach of Virginia Tech. Beamer helped Virginia Tech to win three Big East championships, four ACC championship, and five ACC Coastal Division championship. He also won several awards which include AFCA Coach of the Year, AP Coach of the Year, Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year, George Munger Award, was two-time ACC Coach of the Year, and three-time Big East Coach of the Year.
