Vilma was born in Coral Gables, Florida, and he began his career playing football in high school where he played with Frank Gore. From there, Vilma went on to play college football at the University of Miami where he played for coaches Butch Davis and Larry Coker. During his college career, Vilma was a first-team All-Big East, won the BCS national championship, won a Jack Lambert Trophy, and was a first-team All-American selection. He has previously spoken on his college career, as he was interviewed for the documentary, “The U.” Vilma went on to be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft by the New York Jets. He spent three years with the Jets and went on to spend the rest of his career with the New Orleans Saints.
