Joss was born in Ticonderoga, New York, and he earned his B.A. in economics from the University of Washington before going on to be a Sloan Fellow at Stanford where he went on to earn his MBA and Ph.D. Joss began his career working as a White House Fellow before going on to Deputy to the Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Economic Policy. As a banker, Joss began working with Wells Fargo Bank where he worked his way up to Vice Chairman. After leaving Wells Fargo, Joss went on to begin working for Westpac as the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director. During his career with Westpac, Joss helped the bank focus on business culture, teamwork, communication, customer focus, and community support. Working his way from baking to education, Joss went on to the Philip H. Knight Professor and Dean of the Graduate School of Business at Stanford where he is now currently an Emeritus Professor. Joss has served on the boards of several different companies which include Wells Fargo, Westpac, BEA Systems, Agilent Technologies, Inc., and SRI International.
