Rob Hopkins is an environmental activist and writer who is known for his work on environmental issues and for being the founder and head of the Transition movement. Hopkins was born in Chiswick, London, and he has earned his degree in Environment Quality and Resource Management at the University of the West of England where he also took the Permaculture Design Course. He went on to move to Ireland where he began teaching courses on permaculture and began writing the book ‘Woodlands for West Cork!.’ He also formed the charity Baile Dulra Teoranta with his partner and another family. He then began teaching a practical sustainability course at Kinsale Further Education College where he had his students work on the Kinsale Energy Descent Action Plan, which caught attention all over the world. After living in Ireland for a while, Hopkins and his family moved to Totnes, England, where he co-founded Transition Town Totnes.
