Romero was born in Ogdensburg, New York, and is the wife of John Romero, who also works on video games. Romero has previously earned her degree from Clarkson University and she began her career working as a video game developer and publisher for Sir-tech Software, Inc., where she first started working as a tester for Wizardry before going on to work her way up to designer for the game Wizardry 8. During her time working for Sir-tech, Romero also worked on the Jagged Alliance and Realms of Arkania series. After working for Sir-tech for nearly 20 years, Romero began working for Atari where she worked on the Dungeons and Dragons series and was a lead designer for ‘Dungeons and Dragons: Heroes’. She then worked for Cyberlore Studios where she worked as a lead designer on the game ‘Playboy: The Mansion.’ More recently, Romero has been a creative director for companies which include Slide, Inc. and Lolapps. She has also been co-founder for Loot Drop alongside her husband. She has also worked at the University of California at Santa Cruz as a game designer in residence for the Games and Playable Media Program before working as the Program Director in Game Design and Development for the University of Limerick..
