Alain Robert is a French rock climber and urban climber who has been nicknamed “French Spider-Man.” Robert was born in Digoin, France, and he has gone on to climb 143 of the world’s tallest buildings as a free solo climber, using only his bare hands. Robert began free climbing at a young age and by the time he was only 19 years old he suffered a bad fall that left him 66% disabled. This didn’t allow Robert to stop pursuing his dreams and went on to overcome his adversities and be able to continue to free climb and gain fame all over the world. Robert is able to free climb skyscrapers by using protrusions in the building’s walls and windows to climb. Over the course of his career, Robert has climbed buildings which include the Burj Khalifa, Eiffel Tower, Sydney Opera House, the Montparnasse Tower, Sears Tower, Marriot Hotel in Warsaw, and Petronas Twin Towners.
