The musical group was founded in Hawaii by Frank Orrall, and originally started as a solo project, but led to him forming a line-up to perform a concert at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. Currently, Poi Dog Pondering is still led by Orrall and consists of other members that currently include Susan Voelz, Dave Max Crawford, John Nelson, Ted Cho, Dag Juhlin, and many more.
