William Poole is an American economist who has previously been the President of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. Poole was born in Wilmington, Delaware, and he previously earned his A.B. from Swarthmore College, and his MBA and Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago. Poole went on to begin working on the Board of Governors for the Federal Reserve System and then became a senior economist. Shortly after, he began working at Brown University where he has been a chairman for the economics department, and has also been director for their Center for the Study of Financial Markets and Institutions. While at Brown University, Poole was also the Herbert H. Goldberger Professor of Economics. Apart from his career with Brown, Poole has been a senior advisor for the Brookings Panel on Economic Activity and has been a visiting economist for the Reserve Bank of Australia. He has also been a member of the Council of Economics Advisers and a member for the Academy Advisory Panels of the Federal Reserve Banks. Poole has gone on to be a senior fellow at the Cato Institute, a Distinguished Scholar in Residence for the University of Delaware, and has been a senior advisor for Merk Investments..
