Mariano was born at a naval base in Cavite City, Philippines and moved to the United States with her parents two years after. Mariano’s father served in the Navy as a steward and retired as Master Chief. Mariano went on to earn her degree in biology cum laude from the University of California, San Diego’s Revelle College before going on to enlist in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, Mariano went on to earn her medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of Medicine where she graduated as a lieutenant. Over the years she went on to work up to be a commander and was also head of internal medicine and director of internal medicine clinic at the San Diego naval hospital. This led her to earn the promotion of captain, and then earned the rank of rear admiral. Since retiring from the Navy, Mariano has published the book ‘The White House Doctor: My Patients Were Presidents – A Memoir,’ and has founded the Center for Executive Medicine in Scottsdale, Arizona..
