Ama Serwah Genfi, better known as her stage name Amaarae, is a Ghanaian-American singer-songwriter, producer and engineer who gained popularity by working with artists which included AYLO, Kay-Ara, and Yaw P. Amaarae was born in New York, United States, and was born to Ghanaian parents so split her time between the Atlanta, Georgia, and Accra. When Amaarae was only 13 years old, she began working on her own mixtape and went on to record her own mixtapes over the years and by the time she was 17 she began interning at a music studio. While studying in university, she began working on her song writing skills and also studied English literature. Amaarae began to gain attention internationally after she was named one of Apple Music Africa’s Favorite New Artist. That same year, she also became an Apple Music Beats 1 featured artist and then released her debut EP, “Passionfruit Summers.” Since then, Amaarae has gone on to be featured in Vogue Magazine, has performed at the Boiler Room, and wrote an article of short stories in OkayAfrica. She has also most recently released her debut studio album, “The Angel You Don’t Know.” She has released two singles, “Spend Some Time” and “Like It.”.
