Mick Jenkins is an American hip-hop artist who is based out of Chicago, Illinois. Jenkins was born in Huntsville, Alabama, and he moved to Chicago when he was only 9 years old. Jenkins found his love of music through his parents as they often listened to music which included gospel and neo-soul genres. By the time he was 17 years old, Jenkins began attended open-mic events at Young Chicago Authors and pursued a career in law for a short time after interning at the Dirksen Federal Building in Chicago. He then became an intern at Sir and Madame, and purused a career in fashion for a while. While studying in college, Jenkins participated in a rap competition which led him to pursue a career in music. From there, he released his debut official mixtape, ‘The Mickstape,’ before releasing The Pursuit of ‘HappyNess: The Story of Mickalascage.’ He then released two more mixtapes, ‘Trees and Truths,’ and ‘The Water[s].’ Jenkins then released his debut EP, “Wave[s],” before released his debut studio album, “The Healing Component,” which peaked at number 6 on the U.S. Rap charts, and at number 110 on the US Billboard charts. Since then, Jenkins has released three more EPs, “Or More; The Anxious,” “Or More; The Frustration,” and “The Circus,” and has released his second studio album, “Pieces of a Man.” Some of Jenkins’ most popular songs include “Carefree,” “Jazz,” “Understood,” “Drowning,” and “P’s and Q’s.”.
