Jordan Rakei is a New Zealand-Australian musician, singer-songwriter and record producer who has also been known as Dan Kye. Rakei was born in Tokoroa, New Zealand, and is currently based out of London, United Kingdom. When Rakei was three, he moved to Brisbane, Australia, and later grew up playing instruments which include the piano and guitar. He later began to learn digital production on an Akai MPC sampler. Rakei’s music is a mixture of soul, jazz, alternative RnB and trip hop. He began his musical career after releasing the self-released EPs, “Live at Recording Oasis” and “Franklin’s Room.” The following year he released his third EP, “Groove Curse,” which was released on the Soul Has No Tempo label. After the positive reviews from Groove Curse, Rakei moved to London. He then began working with artists such as FKJ and Tom Misch and was nominated for a Grammy for his work on Disclosure’s single “Masterpiece.” Rakei then released his debut studio album, “Cloak.” After the release of Cloak, Rakei also began releasing dance music under the name Dan Kye. Since then, Rakei has released three more albums, “Wallflower,” “Origin” and “Late Night Tales: Jordan Rakei.” He has previously performed at Glastonbury Festival and has been shortlisted for an Australian Music Prize.
