Simms was born in Monterey, California, and she moved to Queens, New York at a young age. Simms went on to earn her B.S. in psychology from Morgan State University and then earned her Master’s in Management from Florida Institute of Technology. She is also Level II certified by the Defense Acquisition University. Simms began her career first working as a contract specialist for the U.S. Department of Defense. She then went on to co-found Madison Marketing Inc. and began working in advertising before working sales for various companies which include Clear Channel and GlaxoSmithKline. During this time she began working for Sean John and went on to be his assistant which led her to be the chief of staff, General Manager of The Blue Flame Agency and the executive vice president and president of Combs Wine and Spirits. During this time, she was involved in the companies acquisition of DeLeon Tequila where Simms helped the brand relaunch and helped grow Ciroc vodka. She then became president of Combs Enterprises.
