Colin Meloy is an American musician, singer-songwriter, guitarist, and author who is best known for being the frontman of the indie-folk rock band The Decemberists. Meloy was born in Helena, Montana, and he has previously studied English and theatre at the University of Oregon. He then went on to study creative writing at the University of Montana in Missoula. Meloy began performing music while in high school with the band Happy Cactus. While in college, he was a singer and songwriter for the band Tarkio.
