Valerie June is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Memphis, Tennessee, whose music is a mixture of several genres which include folk, blues, gospel, soul, country, bluegrass and Appalachian. June was born in Jackson, Tennessee, and while growing up she found her love for gospel music while attending church and also found her love for RnB and soul music through her father. After deciding to pursue a musical career full-time, June moved to Memphis and began recording and performing in the duo Bella Sun alongside her then husband Michael Joyner. After the duo separated June began to pursue a solo career and also performed with the Broken String Collective. June later released her debut solo single, “Workin’ Woman Blues,” and followed that up with “You Can’t Be Told.” The following year she released the album “Pushin’ Against a Stone,” which peaked on the charts in countries which included the US, Belgium, France, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK.
