Duster -- a space rock band from San Jose, California – had an incredible run from 1996 until 2001, before calling it quits. Then, after 19 years, they came back to give it another go and they’re still kicking. Their first album, “Stratosphere”, was released in 1998 under the Up Records label. The seventeen track album was a hit, getting an 8.6 out of 10 in Pitchfork magazine and receiving essentially universal praise. Duster’s follow up album came just two years later. “Contemporary Movement” received even higher praise and showed that the band was on an upward trajectory. That’s why it came as a surprise when their next album, their self-titled released under Muddguts records, didn’t come out until 2019. The band is largely seen as indie rock, but they’ve also become pioneers in what many people care calling “slowcore,” a lo-fi post-rock sound. The three highly talented multi-instrumentalists Clay Parton, Canaan Dove Amber, and Jason Albertini whipped out the twelve-track record to much praise.
