Jana Hunter used to perform as a solo artist and was signed to Gnomonsong. His solo album “Blank Unstaring Heirs of Doom” wasn’t just his first release, it was the studio’s debut release. Jana would later found his own label called Feow! Records alongside fellow musicians Arthur Bates of Wicked Poseur and Matthew Brownlie of Bring Back the Guns. Jana went on to create Lower Dens, a project focused on a more new wave rock sound. According to Jana, it wasn’t the touring her didn’t like: it was the music he was making. It just wasn’t something he was completely comfortable sharing with the public, hence the collaboration that is Lower Dens was born. Their debut was “Twin-Hand Movement” which was under Jana’s first label Gnomonsong. They later became the first band to sing with Ribbon Music while releasing their sophomore album “Nootropics” in 2012. In total, Lower Dens has four albums, with the most recent being “The Competition” in 2019. Their third album, “Escape from Evil,” was also released under Ribbon Music.
