The brothers duo of bassist Bill Scoville and guitarist Mike Scoville, along with guitarist Matt Wood and drummer Derrick Van Wie, established the band in the middle of the 1990s. One King Down created a CD EP for Trainwreck Records with their original singer, but it was with dynamic frontman Rob Fusco and Equal Vision Records (where Bill spent a number of years) that they truly made their mark on the global hardcore punk scene. Although not all of of the band members are vegans or even vegetarians, they are all drug-free, and the small Fusco's snarl and lyrical advocacy of the vegan straight-edge lifestyle brought them notice from all across the United States and Europe. Fusco's vocals were recorded for the "Bloodlust Revenge EP", published by Equal Vision in 1997 and still regarded by most fans as the band's finest recorded hour, along with the stop-and-go rhythms and dancefloor-moving heavy groove. Several thousand copies of the album were sold at concerts and through significant independent distribution channels while the group was on tour with Brothers Keeper from Erie, Pennsylvania, among other bands.
