These include the 1972 crossover pop songs "The Happiest Girl In The Whole U.S.A." and "Funny Face," both of which were released. Since making her debut in the late 1960s, Fargo has garnered numerous prestigious honors, including a Grammy Award, five Academy of Country Music Awards, and one Country Music Association Award. On November 10, 1945, in Mount Airy, North Carolina, Yvonne Vaughn gave birth to Fargo. She began singing when she was young, but she never considered singing professionally. Fargo studied at the University of Southern California after attending High Point College in North Carolina (USC). She began teaching at Northview High School in Covina, California, after earning her degree from USC, eventually rising to the position of head of the English Department. Fargo began pursuing a music career while still teaching, playing in Southern California nightclubs. She first met Stan Silver in 1966, and he later became both her manager and her husband. In the early 1960s, she cut music for a few modest labels, such as Ramco and Challenge, but singles like "Who's Been Sleeping on My Side of the Bed" did not do well. She received the "Top New Female Vocalist" honor from the Academy of Country Music Awards in 1969 despite the failure of her debut singles.
