Katherine Li, a rising star in indie music, released her first EP, Crush(ed). The musician has always loved performing; she started taking piano lessons at a young age and put on shows for her friends and family. But Li didn't feel it was time to pursue it professionally until much later. She promised herself in a note she wrote to herself that year that she would pursue her passion of becoming a singer. The manifestation worked like a miracle. Li was inspired to share more after receiving tremendously favorable feedback on her debut TikTok, which was a video of her singing a medley of Bruno Mars hits. But Li wanted to broaden her musical repertoire, so she started penning her own songs that had a more personal tone and dealt with heartache.
Li gathered a fervent following of hopeless romantics who felt understood by her emotional songs about romantic struggles. Li demonstrates how far her songwriting has come on Crush(ed). The EP is focused on the idea of the cyclical journey of an unrequited crush: the butterflies in your stomach you get when you fall in love with someone new, the self-deprecation of thinking there's no chance for you to be together, the devastating disappointment when the crush doesn't blossom into a relationship and the denial that there was ever a true interest in that person to begin with.
Her lead track, "Miss Me Too," has an official music video that was also published. The video of Li dancing in her bedroom and singing about longing for the crush who won't leave her head captures the intimacy of her EP. Li is anxious to share new material with fans now that Crush(ed) is out..
