Binker Golding and Moses Boyd are the two partners in the London, United Kingdom-based company Binker and Moses. Saxophone and drums are playing in a free jazz duo. They are among the leaders of a loose but connected group of jazz musicians based in London who draw inspiration from other genres of music, including grime, hip-hop, and electronic music in addition to jazz. For their fourth studio album, Feeding the Machine, they are accompanied solely by Max Luthert, a modular synth manipulator who has previously performed with them live. They are most comfortable in a group of fellow travelers appearing on each other's records. Boyd in particular is in fine shape because his album Dark Matter, which was nominated for a Mercury Prize, was published in 2020. Luthert adds an insistent electronic presence throughout, made up of Golding and Boyd's output modified into drones, whirrs, and textures. While scene linchpin Boyd ranges from susurrations to swinging breakbeats, especially on the banging Accelerometer Overdose, Luthert still sings with her trademark brio.
