The Dare, an English rock group from Oldham, England, is led by Darren Wharton, a former Thin Lizzy keyboardist. Up to this point, they have put out ten albums—nine studio and one live. Out of the Silence, the band's debut album, was made available via A&M Records. At singer Joni Mitchell's home studio in Beverly Hills, it was recorded. Darren Wharton provided the vocals and keyboards for this album, together with Vinny Burns on guitars, Martin "Shelley" Shelton on bass, James Ross on drums, and (now Professor) Brian Cox on keyboards.

The band's original lineup for the record is still Vinny Burns on guitars, Kevin Whitehead on drums, Nigel Clutterbuck on bass, and Marc Roberts on keyboards and vocals. The 12-date main UK tour announcement took place from Leeds to Newbury. Later, further dates were added, one of which was a visit to the Cambridge Rock Festival..
