When the pandemic struck, singer, composer and professional nomad Ian Flanigan had already been leading a troubadour lifestyle for ten years. Extreme means were necessary in these desperate times and Flanigan's final assignment was an unplanned audition for NBC's The Voice in front of talent scouts at a honky-tonk in Nashville. The show's producers liked his distinctive voice, which had a whiskey and cigarette flavor, so he was sent to Los Angeles. After placing third on the competition, Flanigan and his then-mentor and current collaborator Blake Shelton had formed a close friendship. Together, they performed and released "Grow Up," a duet by Flanigan about feeling young no matter your age. Shelton remarked that Flanigan had "the most unique voice on The Voice" that he had ever heard. He was also dubbed a "top gun" by Usher.
By signing with Reviver Music, Flanigan began a new phase of his career and gained the chance to pursue composition and recording at the highest level. After spending a year perfecting a country sound to go with his distinctive voice, Flanigan released the 11-song Strong CD.
