The vocalist grew up listening to classical music, neighborhood radio stations and her father's record collection including Fleetwood Mac and The Beatles. Taya used to improvise songs on the spot and sing them around the home even before she began her six years of formal piano and cello lessons. She attributes her high school music teacher's encouragement of her skill, calling her out on it and teaching her how to harmonize.
Taya started working as a youth leader in her church on Friday nights when she had time off from her job in retail because she didn't want to solely go to church.
