Known professionally as Shygirl, Blane Muise is an English rapper, DJ, singer, composer and the co-founder and head of the record label and collective Nuxxe. The music of Shygirl combines elements of grime, deconstructed club, industrial hip-hop and hip house. She has ties to the hyperpop music movement as well. Shygirl became well-known after collaborating with close friend and collaborator Sega Bodega, as well as Arca and Sophie and other well-known experimental pop producers and garnering support from people like Rihanna, who has used several Nuxxe tracks for her Fenty Beauty commercials and fashion shows. Two EPs called Cruel Practice and Alias, along with a number of singles, were released by Shygirl. as well as Nymph, her first studio album.
Shygirl was raised close to Blackheath after being born in South London.
She appeared on the track "Watch" from Arca's album Kick I. The two had previously worked together on the song "Unconditional," with all of the earnings benefiting Inquest UK and Black Lives Matter. On the Because Music label, she released her second EP, titled Alias. Pitchfork, Vogue and NME all gave this EP favorable reviews.
