Roxy Music, multi-platinum Rock and Roll Hall of Fame honorees, have made a lasting impression on the worlds of music, fashion and art since its inception in 1972. By fusing the three with a distinct and astounding vision, they were able to achieve quick, widespread success. They are now acknowledged as one of the greatest bands of all time and their work has influenced countless other musicians. The art-rock style was started by Roxy Music's eight studio albums, which were intense, expressive and intelligent with memorable graphics. Co-founding member Eno and Ferry both had successful solo careers. In the latter half of the 20th century, Eno emerged as one of the most influential British record producers. Roxy Music was initially ranked No. 98 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 best musicians.
Avalon, Roxy Music's final studio album, received a Platinum certification in the US. However, Ferry eventually announced that the material from these sessions would instead be released as a Ferry solo studio album, with Eno playing on "a couple of tracks" and that he believed the group would never again produce a record as Roxy Music. 
One of the first rock bands to develop and uphold a distinct visual identity for their stage presence, music videos, album and single covers, and promotional materials like posters, handbills, cards and badges was Roxy Music. They received support from a variety of friends and acquaintances who helped to create the iconic Roxy Music "style," including Nicholas De Ville from Ferry's art school, hairstylist Keith Mainwaring, photographer Karl Stoecker and fashion designer Antony Price.
