Avant Garde Club, sometimes known as AG Club, is a 14-person collective of artists from the East Bay that includes musicians, filmmakers, directors, content producers, photographers and designers. The club feels you must always think beyond the box if you want to be considered avant garde. New musicians are experimenting with ways to express themselves through a variety of influences and interests as genre lines in music continue to blur. Crews like Odd Future, A$AP Mob and Brockhampton have revived the DIY ethic, enabling the subsequent generation of social misfits to make just as significant artistic and creative contributions.
After Baby Boy and Jody Fontaine connected for a studio session via a producer buddy, AG Club was established. Jody became a fan of Baby after seeing one of his music videos and immediately began following him on Twitter. Baby was producing music videos for various regional acts before to joining AG Club. Therefore, the fact that Baby and Jody got along well right away was a portent of good things to come. They came up with the name "AG Club" after considering a number of alternatives because their peculiar type of music was unlike anything coming out of Oakland or San Francisco.
As internet natives, AG Club were able to broaden their musical horizons beyond the pioneering Bay Area artists like Too $hort, E-40 and Mac Dre. The majority of the members of AG Club are of a similar age and attended the same high school. They discovered their common interests through a WiFi connection and a Google search. Together, Jody and Baby cite the following artists as their musical influences: Stevie Wonder, Michael Buble, Frank Ocean, Tyler, the Creator, Odd Future, Pharrell, Kanye West and T-Pain, in particular how each artist broke the mold and established a successful brand outside of music. In that sense, AG Club aspires to be "genre-less," producing anything they like without being constrained..
