Rarely does a band's name so perfectly express the essence of the group as does Sun Room from California. Sun Room accomplishes this in a similar fashion to how Rage Against The Machine introduces themselves before "Killing In The Name Of" ever reaches your ears. The four Californian men's music and spirits both radiate the sunshine that their moniker alludes to. The current lineup of Luke Asgian (lead vocals and guitar), Ashton Minnich (guitar), Max Pinamonti (bass) and Gibby Anderson (drums) has only been together for a little over six months.
Asgian, who was starting to recognize that his life was headed in the direction of music, started Sun Room as a quarantine project. Asgian, who grew up in Long Beach, California, said, "I first learned music playing in church, and then in high school, there were a lot of surf rock bands going around, like there was a show every weekend in Long Beach. After I entered college, the bands I had been in during my high school years abruptly came to an end as everyone left Long Beach. When I was in quarantine, I became quite bored and decided to pursue music as my career since I had a strong desire to do so."
Along with having various hometowns, the members of Sun Room each have their own musical influences from songs they listened to and played as children. Pinamonti cited new-wave from the 1980s and classic rock from the 1970s as some of his defining styles. Asgian contributes the group's primary surf sound, while Anderson is described as the group's "soul" guy and Minnich as "the metalhead" of the group.
The band claimed that although their music might be categorized as "surf rock," "rock" would be a better phrase to describe their genre and that the "surf" element was more of a style based on their upbringing..
